Blue Naped Mousebird – (Urococliius macrourus) is one of seven mousebird species popular with bird owners. Its lineage dates back to the Paleocene which began 65 million years ago. Blue-naped Mousebirds still flourish in the wild in the drier areas of eastern Africa. They can also be commonly found as pets in the United States and throughout the world. Adult birds measure an average of 13-14 inches in length. Adult have a grayish body with a turquoise-blue nape, a predominant black-and-red bill, and a slender long tail. Juveniles of the species have green bills, pink facial skin, and lack the blue coloring on their nape. They are social birds both in the wild and as pets. They are continually curious about their surroundings and frequently interact with other birds. In captivity, they tend to readily interact with their owners and other birds.
