Breeding

A female usually lays approximately 4–8 eggs. Both parents participate in caring for the eggs and young. Gouldian chicks typically leave the nest at around 19–23 days and become independent at approximately 40 days.

Gouldians should generally be at least one year old before breeding.

For nesting, they prefer a small, covered space such as a wooden nest box or covered basket. A wooden nest box is often a practical choice because it is easy to access and reduces the risk of toes becoming caught.

Gouldians are not strong nest builders, so suitable nesting material should be provided to help the parents get started.

A nutritious and varied diet is important for maintaining the health and vibrant appearance of Lady Gouldian Finches.
